A few words about insurance

Insurance coverage is an important consideration for many people when it comes to their healthcare needs. This is especially true when it comes to eye care, where annual check-ups with an eye doctor or optometrist can help maintain good vision and detect potential
problems early on. This blog post explores insurance coverage for eye care in the United States, specifically in Tacoma, and how to find an optometrist near you.

Most insurance plans in the United States like EYEMED and VSP cover routine eye exams and other eye care services to some extent. The specifics of coverage vary widely depending on the plan and often your provider simply cannot verify coverage without you providing our office the required documentation like insurance cards, group numbers. Insurance carriers do not make it easy…in some cases insurance requires a SSN to verify!

We always recommend to patients it is important to check with your insurance provider to determine what services are covered and at what the “out of pocket ” cost is ( your cost)!

Some plans may cover the cost of a basic eye exam but require additional payment for more advanced services, such as retinal imaging or specialized tests. At Tacoma eye we do make you aware of such costs so there is no confusion. For example: digital retinal imaging incurs a patient cost of $39.

If you live in Tacoma and are searching for an optometrist near you, there are several ways to go about it. One option is to use an online search engine to look for optometrists in your area. Be sure to include specific keywords such as “Tacoma” and “eye doctor” or “optometrist near me” to narrow your search and find providers in your immediate vicinity.

A great option to determine which providers accept your is to check with your insurance provider to see if they have a list of in-network providers in your area.
